A Rare Friday Off!

We are going to be spending today taking trips to the Ice House where we will once again winter over on the Bannerman Estate! It never seems like we require much until we start loading the cars! Winter clothes are a given but toward the end of our time there it gets warm so we need some of those as well. Thankfully our spot is cozy and furnished.

We had some necessary repair work done on the roof this past week. There were leaky spots by each chimney and the flanges around the bathroom vent pipe needed replacing. The entire roof is in need of work but that will need to wait for next Spring or Summer.

Barry finally had to give in and put a new battery in the taurus, yesterday, after being stranded several times. A jump would get him going but the battery just was not holding. He was in Fair Haven the last time it happened which was much better than being out here at the lake.

We have both had our flu shots and hopefully will not have a bout of that this winter! BJT does have a very sore throat and cold to go with it but he is plugging on.

Time to dress my feet and begin loading my car. Wish you all were here to help!

Happy Birthday Greetings to Roxanna in Iowa!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ROXANNA!

I Have Voted!!!

I exercised my civic duty and voted today! I realize that my vote will be swallowed up by the liberal monster that is Vermont but I have voted nonetheless! I encourage each and every one of you to do the same.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRISTINE!!!

Monday, October 20, 2008

Joel and Christine left this morning for a Wesleyan District Conference at the Word of Life Conference Center in the Adirondacks. I came over to stay with the children and brought a bag of craft ideas. It was great fun.

Grandma in Charge!

This was quite a project. Grace was a natural. I was not sure I was even going to be able to decipher the directions! Lucy chose pink and purple threads and worked very hard.
Obie was a flibberty gibbet and every time I looked to see what he was doing his activity involved scissors! Such a rascal.

My Lucy Joy and her baby doll.

I was actually thankful when it was time to fix dinner!

Why do days off go by so fast?

Today began early for a non work day. Barry left the house before 8am to go spend the morning with Dr. Jim Wood. Barry and Jim have a Bible Study together while Wendy is at the Women's Bible Study at the North Chittenden Church. I, too, would have been at the Bible Study if I had not had a 9 am dentist appointment. Just my 6 month cleaning/x-ray visit. Teeth and gums are fine I am happy to report!

After the dentist I took my car for an oil change and talked about studded snow tires with the guy at the auto place. It was just an information gathering session. Miss Scarlett he told me was a sporty lightweight and probably would not be too good in the snow with or without studded snow tires! That was wonderful news! Changing my game plan and thinking I will get studded snow tires for the taurus and leave BJT with the sporty Miss Scarlett! Stay tuned to see how this all pans out. (I realize this is one of the more exciting of my posts!)

I am actually killing time waiting for BJT to get out of the shower so that I can start the dishwasher. Ah, here he comes so here I go. It has been great fun visiting with you all. I will be off to Manchester in the morning.

Beautiful October Days!

It is a tradition each Fall to send Barry's sister, Peggy, some pressed leaves. We had fun gathering and readying this years bunch. Because Peggy has lived in St. Petersburg, Florida for the past 40 some years she has missed the colorful foliage we enjoy each year. Today this year's bounty are boxed up and traveling south thanks to the USPS. Enjoy, Peggy! Enjoyed doing a jigsaw puzzle over the course of many days. It got worked on for a few minutes here and there until finally we had the finished product.
It was a fun puzzle to do with enough clues and identifying parts to make it not too much of a challenge! Only 300 pieces. . .no 1,000 piece puzzles that are all the same color for me!!!

Obedient Plant

I am slowly gathering an assortment of perennial flowering plants. I was given this obedient plant Monday so brought it right home and found it a spot! I also have some others planted up at the top of the stairs near where we park our cars. To the left of the obedient plant you can see my hollyhock plant. It is a deep, dark purple and I hope it survives and spreads. There is one on each side of the steps.

Saturday!

Fall colors are getting vibrant. The mountains looked like patchwork quilts this morning on our way to work. Just beautiful. I will be in the ER today and tomorrow for my obligatory 12 hours each day.

The McPhersons are up this weekend and we have been invited to come over when I get home from work today for some dessert. They traditionally celebrate their family Thanksgiving the Columbus Day weekend when they come up to close up the cottage, however, Doug has an overseas trip that will make that not possible so this is the celebration weekend. There were also numerous turkey hunters parked along side the road all the way into Benson starting on our back road by the frog pond!

Thanks for posting all the pictures of John's "Spartanage"Joel and Christine. I laughed when I saw the name it had been given and it is perfect. A ping pong table in the living room is now a Tate tradition! New car is beautiful John!

Time for me to get to work.
